I am trying to find information on my great grandfather and great uncle. Theodule or Theodore is my great grandfather, he was born in Savoy France with his wife Marie and family. They lived in San Francisco, moved to Alberta, Canada and then he moved back to the U.S. and lived in Contra Costa, California. My great uncle Ernest also moved to California, he is married to Annie and has two daughters Joyce and Virginia. I do not know anymore about them, however, I would love to be able to talk to them and get to know them. I have come to a dead end otherwise. Any information would be appreciated.
I think I found the ship record for Theodule Richard and his family arriving in California on board the San Jose in June 1913. Theodule was born about 1865. Does this sound like the same family?
If it is, it lists Ernest as being 12 years old....making his birth year approx 1901. I found an Ernest Richard born 26 or 27 of August 1901 (SSDI shows 26 Aug and California death index shows 27...either way it is the same person...have identifical social security numbers.) He died 26 Oct 1970 in Los Angeles, California. Los Angeles is gigantic but according to the social security death index his last zip code was 90001. That narrows it to Florence/South LA. Okay...if all this sounds correct (If not I'm sorry!) then I would find his obit. At Random Acts of Genealogical Kinds (www.raogk.com) there is a woman named Brenda Weisner that does look-ups in all of LA. She usually has a waiting list several months long but it would be worth taking a shot. Hopefully there would be clues, such as married names for his daughters for you to follow-up on.
Thank you ever so much for the information, You did find the right Theodule and Ernest, however, I too have this information as well as a bit more. All I wanted to do was find his wife perhaps and his two daughters. Thank you again.
Adolphus Doll Leopard was born 1860 in South Carolina. I located his death certificate thorugh the South Carolina death index and he died 24 Oct 1927 of prenicious malaria. His son John was the reporting party. His father was Elijah Leopard.
I was able to locate Adolphus in the 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 census records. In the 1870 census his mother, Nor, is the head of household. He has siblings Isabel 15, James 12, David 11, then Doll 10, Angeline 7, and Martha 3. They are living in Edgefield, South Carolina.
1880 Doll is now a boarder working in the cotton mill in Greg, Aiken, South Carolina.
1900 he is married to Nora living in Georgia. They have children Orla, Edar, Bessie, John. There is a William born 1883 that is already gone from the household.
1910 Doll and Nora are living in Langley, Aiken, SC with Edward, Bessie, John Henry, and Annie.
1920 Doll and Nora living alone in Langley, Aiken, SC.
Doll's wife was Nora Watson. She was born in 1864 in South Carolina. She died on the same day as Doll..24 Oct 1927. Her parents were SF Walton and Sarah Howell of Edgefield SC.
Looking for Doll's father Elijah...I located his family in the 1860 in Edgefield. It has Elijah age 26 and Martha age 27 Lepard. It listed Doll's 3 older siblings Isabel, James and David.
I then found Elijah's family in the 1850 census in Edgefield. He is the son of WD Lippard and Nancy. I believe his father was William Leopard located in Edgefield as head of household in the 1840 census.
A little more research uncovered that Elijah was in the 7th regiment Co. F of the South Carolina Infantry during the Civil War. He disappears before the 1870 census with his last child being born in 1867.
Thank you very much. your letter tells me that William Leopard was a member of Doll's family and born in 1883, I think that is my grandfather.. I have a cosin who is 79 and she tells me of Doll Leopard and my grandfather knowing each other. These boads do work. Do you have anymore informatiom on the Leopard, Lepard or Lippard family.
